Kafwaya endorses President Lungu’s candidature

KAFWAYA

BUTTYSON KANDIMBA, Solwezi
FORMER Solwezi Central member of Parliament (MP) Dawson Kafwaya has endorsed the candidature of President Edgar Lungu in the 2021 general elections.
And Mr Kafwaya has said he still wants to serve the people of Solwezi Central constituency and has declared his intention to contest the seat on the ruling party ticket in 2021.
Speaking in an interview yesterday, Mr Kafwaya urged Zambians to support President Lungu’s intention to stand in 2021 to enable him to complete all development projects that will be initiated in his first five-year term of office.
“There is need for President Edgar Chagwa Lungu to continue beyond 2021 so that he completes projects that he will start,” he said.
Mr Kafwaya urged all Patriotic Front (PF) members countrywide to support President Lungu’s intentions to run for a second term.
“The Constitution is very clear about the eligibility of President Lungu standing in 2021. He did not serve for more than three years after he took over from late President Sata. So his term started when he was re-elected in 2016,” he said.
Mr Kafwaya said it was sad that the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) was trying to gain political mileage by spreading the falsehood that President Lungu wanted to run for a third term.
“We should not just be fighting to become president when you have no agenda. So let the UPND go and consult their legal team to interpret the Constitution,” he said.
Mr Kafwaya pledged his continued being loyal to President Lungu and the PF.
He said he still would apply for adoption to stand as member of Parliament on the ruling party ticket in 2021.
“I know that 2021 is not far and I am just trying to reflect so that come 2021 we are going to bounce back and deliver development,” Mr Kafwaya said.
