THE tarring of Chipata- Chadiza – Chanida Road at a cost of K540 million has started and is expected to be completed next year.
Chadiza district commissioner Paul Phiri said the tarring of the150 kilometre road started last week.
Mr Phiri said in an interview yesterday that works are progressing well.
“We expect that in the next two weeks, the contractor will be able to cover 10 kilometres from Chadiza to Chipata and nine kilometres from Chadiza to Chanida,†Mr Phiri said.
He said Government has engaged China State Construction Engineering Corporation Limited to tar the 35 kilometre stretch between Chipata and Chadiza.
Mr Phiri said the project is expected to be completed in March next year.
Mr Phiri also said the stretch between Chadiza and Chanida is expected to be completely next March despite the onset of the rains.
