K400,000 to revive Mwenda fish ponds

BILKE MULENGA, Chipili
GOVERNMENT has earmarked K400,000 to revive the Mwenda Fish Farm Breeding Centre in Chipili district in Luapula Province.
The centre, which closed about five years ago, once opened will be the source of fingerlings to supply fish farmers in the area.
Chipili district agricultural co-ordinator Havitus Sempela confirmed that the farm, which consists of 26 fish ponds, is expected to reopen this year.
The district has over 230 fish farmers.
Mr Sempela said the project includes rehabilitation of the ponds and the re-stocking of the fingerlings.
