K4.2bn road contract elates Luano residents

PEOPLE in Luano district in Central Province are elated by the K4.2 billion contract the Road Development Agency (RDA) has signed with CMC Di Ravenna,an Italian company,to tar selected roads in the region.

RDA last week awarded a contract to the Italian construction company to upgrade 292 kilometres of selected roads in Central Province that include Kabwe-Piccadilly, Circus-Mkushi and Mupula-Masansa roads.
Both Luano district commissioner Christopher Chibuye and council chairman Gabriel Mwami said in separate interviews yesterday that the roads will open up the region for investment once upgraded to bituminous standard.
Mr Chibuye said the upgrading of Kabwe-Luano, Luano- Masansa, Masansa-Mkushi and Masansa-Mpula roads is a positive development in promoting infrastructure development in Luano district.
“These works are starting this year and the contractor will move on site soon. This will actually open up Luano and accessibility to the district will be easy,” Mr Chibuye said.
He said the upgrading of gravel roads will facilitate development of other infrastructure and the growth of the agriculture sector.
And Reverend Mwami said the poor road network has been a major challenge in opening up and developing Luano.
Rev Mwami said when the 120km Kabwe-Luano road, which passes through Kapiri Mposhi is tarred, this will be a short route to Central Province’s capital from Luano.
“People are excited that these roads will finally be tarred and they are thankful to the government,” Mr Mwami said.
Mr Mwami said people will now be interested to establish businesses in Luano as Government is now making efforts to improve the road network.
He said movement of people, and agricultural inputs and equipment will be easy.
