K294m released for Chinsali township roads

GOVERNMENT has awarded a K294 million contract to Kailgee Construction Zambia Limited for the rehabilitation of 26 kilometres of township roads in Chinsali district in Muchinga Province.

During his recent visit to Chinsali, President Lungu was saddened by the poor state of the roads in the district and assured the residents that he was going to source funds for the road works.
The contractor engaged to do the works has since moved on site and is grading and compacting the roads.
Muchinga Province permanent secretary Bright Nundwe said in an interview the duration of the project is 14 months.
“A contract has been awarded for the rehabilitation of township roads here in Chinsali. The contractor has since moved on site and the works have started,” Mr Nundwe said.
And Chinsali district commissioner Maximo Chitambi thanked the people of Chinsali for their patience while Government was trying to source funds for rehabilitating the township roads.
Mr Chitambi said Chinsali, being the headquarters of Muchinga Province,is supposed to have a good road network to accelerate economic development.
He said the people of Chinsali are happy with the developmental projects that are taking place in the district aimed at improving their lives.
Mr Chitambo also said the Zambia National Service (ZNS) is repairing the earth moving equipment in readiness for the grading of feeder roads in peri-urban areas.
“The roads in the peri-urban areas are important and our colleagues the Zambia National Service are just repairing their equipment before they can move on site to start grading the rural roads,” he said.
