K21 million released for farmers

GOVERNMENT has released K21.5 million for the compensation of over 418 farmers affected by the construction of the US$500 million Copperbelt International Airport

in Ndola.
And President Lungu is expected to commission the ground-breaking ceremony of the new airport project and construction of Copperbelt township roads on June 25, 2017.
Copperbelt permanent secretary Elias Kamanga said at a media briefing in Ndola yesterday Government has secured land and money for the compensation, but that the farmers would be paid in two phases
He said 186 persons sitting on 1,000 hectares will be paid first.
“My office prepared a resettlement action plan for all the affected persons who are to be compensated and Ministry of Finance has released K21,478,986 for payment of all affected settlers, and this money is sitting in the bank here in Ndola. We are ready to pay based on the records that we have,” he said.
