K18m invested in Sinazongwe market

MWAPE MWENYA, Lusaka
SINAZONGWE district commissioner Protashio Mulenga says Government has invested K18 million towards the construction of a modern market that will benefit 75 percent women in the area.

Mr Mulenga said in an interview that Government is also facilitating the construction of a community self-help market in Mulima Ward at a cost of K45 million.
He said Government and other stakeholders are implementing various development projects targeting women and children.
“The Ministry of Gender has also donated a tractor to a club with over 75 percent women. The money being raised is being channelled to various programmes to uplift their living standards,” Mr Mulenga said.
He said the works being undertaken in the area are in line with the 7th National Development Plan recently launched by President Lungu.
Mr Mulenga said the district has women who have engaged in various income-generating activities and fish trading in which they are supplying fish to Copperbelt, Northern, Western and other provinces.
He said Government is also planning to engage a cotton-growing company that will partner with women in the district.
He said women have also been encouraged to venture into goat keeping as the district is one of the largest producers of goats.
He said Government will work with various stakeholders to ensure that they purchase equipment for women to allow for improved production.
Mr Mulenga said Government is working with all women in the district irrespective of political affiliation and social status.
And Mr Mulenga has congratulated Mandevu Member of Parliament Jean Kapata on her appointment as Patriotic Front Women`s League and Child Development chairperson.
He said the appointment will benefit not only women in the ruling party but the nation because Ms Kapata is a hardworking woman.
