K1.5m Solwezi dam completed

GOVERNMENT has completed the construction of a multi-purpose dam in Mujimanzovu area in Solwezi in a project that has gobbled K1.5 million.
Provincial water officer George Ndhlovu said the dam has the capacity to store 200, 000 cubic metres of water and is expected to benefit about 240 people in Mujimanzovu.
Mr Ndhlovu said in an interview yesterday that the dam will be used for fish farming, irrigated agriculture and livestock production.
“The dam is expected to be commissioned early next month,” he said.
Mr Ndhlovu said the dam will be of great benefit to the locals as they will be able to venture in various income-generating activities.
And Senior Chief Mujimanzovu has commended government for constructing a multipurpose  dam in his chiefdom.
In a separate interview, Chief Mujimanzovu said the facility will help increase agricultural production in his chiefdom.
“It is a blessing that we have this dam in my chiefdom because our focus as a royal establishment is to increase agricultural production,” he said.
The chief, however, appealed to Government to improve the road network in the area.
“You see, when you harvest crops, you must have access to the markets, but if you continue producing and you can’t get to the market, then that will be an exercise in futility,” he said.
Chief Mujimanzovu said most roads in his area are in bad shape and, therefore, farmers find it difficult to transport their produce to the markets.
