Judokas regroup for Swaziland tourney

CECILIA ZULU, Lusaka
THE national judo team regrouped in Lusaka yesterday to intensify preparations for the African Union Sports Council Region Five Championship slated for Swaziland this month-end.
And coach Francis Linosi is targeting winning two gold medals at the tournament.
Linosi said yesterday that the team is camped at Olympic Youth Development Centre in Lusaka.
“We started training last week. So far, I am impressed with the level of fitness amongst some judokas. For those who are yet to pick up, there is still room to improve,” he said.
The three-day tournament will start on March 27 in Manzini.
Meanwhile, Linosi is confident judokas will reap medals in Swaziland.
The event will be used as a qualifier for the 2015 Congo Brazzaville All-Africa Games and the 2016 Rio de Jainero Olympic Games.
The men’s team has Micheal Mwabi [60kg], Steven Mungánda [66kg], Amos Sikazwe [73kg] and John Mwale [81kg].
Abigail Chindele [48kg] and Esther Sandu [52kg] will compete in the women category.
The reserves are Edward Kamwandi (90kg), Davies Simbeya (100kg) and Agida Phiri (+100kg).
