Jubilee is time to thank God – Evans

NANCY MWAPE, Livingstone
GOVERNMENT says the golden jubilee celebrations offer Zambians an opportunity to thank God for the peace the country has enjoyed since independence.
Deputy minister of tourism and arts Lawrence Evans said the word ‘golden jubilee’ speaks volume for the aura of glory in which the church lies submerged.
“A jubilee is a time of joy and thanksgiving…to give praise to God for the peace and prosperity of our nation. There is no doubt that Zambia has established herself as an oasis of peace,” he said.
Mr Evans said this during the corporate dinner for the United Church of Zambia (UCZ).
The UCZ needs K1 million for the independence jubilee celebrations.
He commended UCZ for its contribution towards the development of spiritual, moral, social and economic development.
“UCZ has been working in the areas of education and health among other sectors, to uplift the living standards of our people,” he said.
Mr Evans urged the church to continue with its noble call of serving the masses.
