Jilowa wins Captain’s Trophy

YOUNG golfer Kennedy Jilowa on Sunday put up an impressive performance to win the Mazabuka Golf Club Captain’s Trophy.
The 21-year-old Copperbelt University student garnered 34 points on a day that most golfers struggled due to the tight course and narrow fairways to emerge victorious.
He received a floating trophy and a DStv Explora decoder for winning the tournament sponsored by Mazabuka Golf Club captain Henry Mambwe.
“I am very happy I didn’t expect to win this tournament. Competition was tough but I remained composed and I eventually won,” Jilowa said.
Chilanga golfer Kelly Tembo amassed 36 points, two better than Jilowa but was relegated into second place because he is not a member of the Mazabuka Golf Club.
Tembo received a microwave.
Mambwe explained that if golfers from another club finish top, then the championship will be given to the best performing local golfer.
In the A category, Charlie Butts brought home 30 points to settle for the third slot while Gaspa Buntele was second after also garnering 30 points.
The two golfers were tied on 30 points but Buntele lost on a count back.
Sikaanka Kabudula of Mazabuka scooped the A Division with 33 points.
Mambwe, who is Zambia Sugar Plc director of finance, said the tournament, which attracted 74 golfers from across the country, was a success.
“This was a great competition. To have a field of 74 golfers means the tournament is well attended because for us that’s a maximum,” he said.
He said Mazabuka Golf Club is grateful to Zambia Sugar for the continued support rendered to the sport.
“Without Zambia Sugar, our golf club wouldn’t have been this good. We are promising that next time this competition is held the course will even be better than it is now,’ Mambwe said.
