NATIONAL team coach Honour Janza has hailed Turkey-based striker Jacob Mulenga’s scoring form ahead of next month’s 2015 Morocco Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Niger.
And Janza said France-based Chipolopolo defender Stopilla Sunzu’s recovery from a thigh injury is a timely boost ahead of the crucial Group F qualifiers against the West Africans.
Mulenga has scored two goals in three appearances for Turkish First Division side Adana Demirspor.
Speaking in an interview in Lusaka yesterday, Janza said Mulenga’s ability in front of goal is a good sign as the Chipolopolo prepare for next month’s penultimate qualifiers.
Zambia, who need a minimum of four points from next month’s qualifiers, face Niger on October 11 in Niamey and then four days later host the West Africans at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
He is looking forward to Mulenga replicating his form when Zambia play Niger.
“Of course Jacob scored when we lost 2-1 to Cape Verde early this month, but we want to see more goals from him as that’s a role of a striker,” Janza said.
Janza has also urged Mulenga to continue working hard for both club and the national team.
“Jacob is performing his role as a striker and I want him to remain focused,” he said.
Mulenga, who moved from Dutch side Utrecht after five seasons, netted his second goal for his new club on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Sunzu has recovered from the thigh strain he sustained during Chipolopolo’s 2-1 defeat against the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde.
Sunzu was yesterday named in the FC Sochaux squad that played Stade Brestois.
