Janza picks local AfCON squad

CHIPOLOPOLO coach Honour Janza has summoned 24 local players who include league top-scorer Jackson Mwanza for a training camp ahead of the 2015 Equatorial Guinea Africa Cup of Nations.
The camp is scheduled for December 14 -23 in Lusaka.
Janza has included six new players, among them  Nkana forward Festus Mbewe and Green Buffaloes defender Dennis Banda, in the squad.
Others are midfielder Nsofwa Mwansa from demoted Kabwe Warriors, Power Dynamos defender Alex Mwamba, Zesco United’s duo of Jackson Mwanza and Simon Silwimba.
Janza, who is also FAZ technical director, has maintained all the players who were part of the team that beat Mozambique and Cape Verde in the AfCON qualifiers.
Speaking in an interview in Lusaka before departure for Equatorial Guinea to attend the AfCON draws scheduled for this evening, Janza warned the local players against featuring in Christmas tournaments.
He said players need enough rest to be fit for the continental showpiece.
“End of season does not mean the players have to be involved in these community tournaments like the Christmas tournament. They need total rest. These two weeks are for them to recover because we need them fully fit,” he said.
Janza said the technical bench is also monitoring all the foreign-based players and hoped those injured will recover before the tournament kicks off on January 17.
Defender Stopilla Sunzu, midfielder Chisamba Lungu and forward Given Singuluma are all nursing injuries.
