THE appointment of Zambia’s most decorated FIFA referee as Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) technical director is a welcome move but has its own merits and demerits.
In the first place, this comes at the backdrop of alleged poor officiating by most referees in Division 1 and Super Division. Watching Nkana Vs KYSA at Chilata, one wonders if the standard of refereeing is improving or not. It was evident that the young boys were denied an outright penalty but Nkana, in similar circumstances, were awarded a penalty which was eventually converted by top scorer, Mbobo Idris.
In view of the above, it is believed that Janny will bring expertise to FAZ and maybe can be attached to serious in-house retraining of referees. On the other hand, both Janny and Gladys have unfinished business with the FIFA World Cup. That is, not until the two stand in the middle of the pitch in a final match will they retire.
Janny could have been left to pursue his career as a referee, after all this appointment, should it be ratified, will only be available as long as the Kamanga administration is in office.Thereafter where does he go? Just a thought. Good luck Janny!
