James Sakala gears up for headlining show

NKOLE NKOLE, Lusaka
AFRO jazz artiste James Sakala is gearing up for his very first show as a headliner which will be held in celebration of Africa Freedom Day at Lusaka’s Misty Jazz Club.
James said he is excited that he is staging his own show, which is taking place for the first time in his growing music career.
The show, slated for May 30, 2015, is themed ‘Africa Night’ and James will be backed by Elect Band throughout the evening.
Aside from being a solo artiste, he is also a member of Elect Band, in which he combines his vocals with his guitar and percussion playing skills.
Although he is yet to release his debut album, he has in recent times shared the stage with various artistes and was selected to perform a live set during last year’s Stanbic Misty Jazz Festival in Lusaka.
“This is the first show that I’m doing that is mine, and I’m doing it with a full band,” an eager James said in an interview.
The opportunity for James to get his own show came when he jumped on stage recently during a show featuring singer-songwriter Namvula, who is of Zambian and Scottish descent.
He was then approached by the management of Misty Jazz Club and offered the chance to have his very own show.
For the Africa Night, James plans to perform songs from Zambia and Zimbabwe in the first set before singing his own songs in the second.
Concerning the progress with recording his debut album, he shared that its recording has since been completed but is now in the mixing and mastering stage.
James shared further that the album will feature 12 tracks and he has collaborated with soul singer Scarlet on one of the tracks.
Earlier this week, James dropped the video for the track Listen to Me, which features Zimbabwean artiste and BBA Season Nine contestant JJ.
The video was shot from the MOJO media studio in Lusaka.
