It’s decision time

AFTER a month of hearing lofty, moderate, realistic and even mind-boggling campaign promises from nine candidates participating in today’s mayoral by-election, Lusaka’s 840,000 registered voters will decide who was most convincing to take over the leadership of the capital city. There are elections also being held in Chilanga to elect a new council chairperson and in five new districts in Eastern and one in Luapula Province as well as local government polls in other parts of the country.
Some view the Lusaka mayoral by-election as a battle between the Patriotic Front (PF) and United Party for National Development (UPND) and are using it as a popularity assessment ahead of the 2021 general elections.
