Itezhi-Tezhi women clubs in K101,000 boost

CHRISTINE CHIHAME, Kitwe
GOVERNMENT has released K101,000 empowerment funds to 10 women clubs in Itezhi-Tezhi, district commissioner George Sichula has said.
Mr Sichula said yesterday that over 155 women in Itezhi-Tezhi will benefit from the empowerment funds.
Mr Sichula said Government is committed to empowering vulnerable people in society.
“I am happy to announce that this week, Government released funds to empower women in my district, which is testimony of its committment to ensuring that more and more women in the country are empowered,” Mr Sichula said.
He said Government recognises women as important stakeholders in national development.
“We don’t want women to depend on men always. this is the reason we are empowering them. We want them to be self-reliant,” Mr Sichula said.
He also said the empowerment funds will help to reduce poverty in Itezhi-Tezhi.
“I am appealing to all women in the district to join women’s clubs so that they can benefit from various programmes that government is implementing under the Ministry of Gender and Women in Development,” he said.
