Iran seeks to pursue farming in Zambia

THE Iran government is looking at the possibility of acquiring 100,000 hectares on lease to pursue farming in Zambia.

Islamic Republic of Iran ambassador to Zambia and Zimbabwe and special representative to the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Ahmad Erfanian said venturing in the agriculture sector to enable that country to have stable supplies of agricultural products in the face of the poor soils and water resources is critical.

Mr Erfanian said in an interview after presenting his credentials to COMESA secretary general Sindiso Ngwenya yesterday that due to scarcity rains Iran is considering venturing into overseas farming for commodities such….
