‘Invest more in entrepreneuship’

ESTHER MSETEKA, Lusaka
ACTIONAID Zambia has called for more investment in entrepreneurship skills to encourage effective participation of local enterprises in economic development.
Despite Government’s call for a strong local industry, not much has been realised in entrepreneurship skills, ActionAid Zambia country director Nalucha Nganga-Ziba said.
“ActionAid notes that President Lungu in his inaugural speech emphasised the need to promote local investment but it is sad to note that over the years, very little has been done to improve the status of a Zambian entrepreneur, especially the youths ,” Ms Nganga-Ziba said in a statement availed to the Daily Mail last week.
She said that ActionAid Zambia is positive that Parliament, through policy direction by President Lungu as he opens the National Assembly, will focus more on governance and the inclusion of gender and income inequality elements in monitoring and evaluation of various programmes among other issues.
On governance, Ms Nganga-Ziba said there is need for local governments to clearly define and implement developmental and service delivery that will help support various elements such as pro-poor orientation.
