Invest in amateur football – Damiano

MWILA NTAMBI, Kitwe
FOOTBALL administrator Damiano Mutale has implored the corporate world to invest in amateur football to improve the standard of the sport.
Mutale said in an interview in Mufulira that increased sponsorship would motivate more young people to play football in the amateur ranks.
He added that increased sponsorship will help in exposing more talent.
“These tournaments are very good for talent identification. As Mufulira, we are happy that we have had two tournaments just in a space of days and we are grateful to the sponsors for their gesture.
“But we would like to see more corporate entities coming on board to sponsor amateur football because this is where our future national team players are found,” Mutale said.
Meanwhile, Damiano Football Academy on Sunday won the Kalusha Bwalya Football Tournament at Damiano Playing Field in Mufulira.
Damiano beat Chimwemwe Chiefs 3-0 to emerge champions.
They pocked K1,500 and soccer balls while runners-up Chimwemwe walked away with K1,200 and soccer balls.
The top scorer and man-of-the-match got K200 and soccer balls.
Last week, another amateur tournament sponsored by Kantanshi member of Parliament Yamfwa Mukanga was held at the same venue in Mufulira.
