ZSIC General Insurance has said Government should introduce a mandatory house insurance policy.
ZSIC General Insurance director for technical operations Ben Sakala said people are building houses but many of them do not insure their properties.
Mr Sakala said as the case is with motor vehicle insurance, it would be good if Government can apply a similar law on houses.
“Government can come up with a policy to ensure that people insure their houses as it is done with motor vehicles,” Mr Sakala said.
Mr Sakala said this during the just-ended 50th Mkushi District Agricultural and Commercial Show when Central Province Minister Davies Chisopa toured the ZSIC General Insurance.
Mr Sakala said in the absence of home owners’ insurance, people whose houses catch fire lose a lot because they cannot be compensated.
He said ZISC’s home owners insurance is a good product that people with houses should take advantage of to cover their properties against fire.
He also said insurance products such motor insurance, business insurance and agricultural insurance that ZSIC General Insurance offers are good products which people should take advantage of.
“We have introduced the policy for peasant farmers under agricultural insurance…it’s our responsibility as an insurer that we take care of the farmers,” Mr Sakala said.
