ZAMBIA won bronze and gold medals respectively at the Hong Kong and China Open Tiger Bowls World Invitational tournament.
Zambia Bowling Association (ZBA) general secretary Foster Banda, who released the results in Lusaka on Thursday, said women bowlers beat China 8-7 to grab gold.
Banda said the women bowlers managed a bronze medal at the Hong Kong Open after losing 12-13 to China in the semi-finals.
The team comprised Mary Ntonongela, Rhoda Namposya both from Nchanga and Chibuluma’s Betty Sinkala.
Banda said the trio walked away with 11, 500 Hong Kong dollars.
The ladies also won prize money of 10,000 Hong Kong dollars for the gold medal and 1,500 Hong Kong dollars for the Bronze Medal.
Banda said the men’s team comprising Chali Chilombo, Richard Zyambo, Stuart Ngambi and Patrick Zulu lost in the quarter-finals to emerge fifth overall out of the 72 countries that took part in the event.
“Even though the men did not mint any medals, their performance was still impressive,” she said.
The team arrived back home on Thursday.
