‘Indeni still viable’

INDUSTRIAL Development Corporation (IDC) says Indeni Oil Refinery still remains viable despite Government’s intention to allow the private sector to import finished petroleum products as it is cheaper to bring in fuel through the pipeline compared to oil tankers.

Currently, Government handles both the importation of finished fuel products as well as crude oil, which is pumped from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania through TAZAMA pipelines into Indeni Refinery.
In his budgetary statement, Minister of Finance Felix Mutati announced that Government will disengage from procurement of finished products to be undertaken by the private sector.
