THE Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) is mandated under the Standards Act, Cap 416 of the Laws of Zambia to develop national standards and ensure their implementation.
Standards are developed and implemented to ensure that we protect public safety, public health and the environment. I have repeatedly said dear reader, that I want all of us, consumers and industry alike, to begin relating standards to public health and safety and environmental protection.
Today, however, we discuss one other function of the Bureau, which is to act as consultants in the field of standards and provide advisory services to industry, including any service industry. Beyond that the Bureau is expected to encourage or undertake education in connection with standards. It is against this background that ZABS offers training programmes that are based on international management systems standards.
A management system is the framework of policies, processes and procedures used to ensure that an organisation can fulfil all its tasks required to achieve its objectives.
Management systems standards, therefore, are used by businesses, large and small, to ensure that operations, products and services meet or exceed customer expectations. They are also used to monitor the ‘health’ of the organisation and drive continual improvement. But did you know that ZABS offers training in management systems programmes?
The good news is that ZABS offers training in the following:
ISO 9001: Quality management system,
ISO 27001: Information security management system,
ISO 14001: Environmental management system.
OHSAS 18001: Occupational health and safety management system,
ISO 22000: Food safety management system
ISO 17025: Laboratory management system.
Training in management systems offers a number of benefits to the participants and their organisations. This article will clearly highlight some of the benefits that you get after training in any one of our management systems programmes.
BENEFITS OF TRAINING IN MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS STANDARDS
It is important to note that whether you are an individual or an organisation, these training programmes are relevant to you depending on which standards apply to your line of work. Some of the benefits are:
1. Helps improve efficiency of operations by reducing operating costs and wastage
The training programmes offered by ZABS allow organisations to improve operationally by imparting knowledge and skills that can quickly reduce operating costs. For instance, training in ISO 9001 provides tools that enable organisations to provide consistently quality products and services. This also helps reduce wastage of company resources.
2. Results in greater consistency and traceability of product/services
Using ISO 9001:2015 helps organisations to ensure that customers get consistent, good quality products and services, which in turn brings many business benefits.
3. Helps increase company profitability
Implementing management systems standards within an organisation can help increase the profitability of the organisation.
4. Helps increase customer satisfaction and improves customer loyalty
For the food and hospitality industry, implementing management systems standards can greatly assist in increasing customer satisfaction. The consequences of unsafe food can be serious and ISO’s food safety management standards help organisations identify and control food safety hazards.
5. Avoids time-consuming multiple re-evaluation by purchasers and regulators
Training in management system standards can help an organisation to meet its regulatory requirements.
6. Facilitates credible marketing on both domestic and international markets
Implementing and certifying any of the various management systems standards, provides a credible marketing tool to an organisation both locally and internationally.
7. It helps improve communication and fosters good employee relations
Training in management systems standards such as the ISO 9000:2015 quality management systems can help to improve communication within an organisation.
Are you seeking to improve your service delivery and satisfy and even exceed your customers’ expectations? Are you looking to gain that competitive advantage and gain customer loyalty?
