Improve disaster management – PS

MALUPENGA

BUTTYSON KANDIMBA, Solwezi
NORTH-WESTERN Province permanent secretary Amos Malupenga has called for concerted efforts in addressing disasters in the province.
Mr Malupenga said the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) and other actors involved in disaster management should improve their capacity to respond to situations and deliver protection and assistance to affected people.
“Many are the times when we have faced crises and people need to be put in camps but the co-ordination has not been to standard,” he said.
Mr Malupenga said this in a speech read for him by assistant permanent secretary Peter Chilambwe at the official opening of a three-day co-ordination and camp management training workshop for the provincial disaster management committee members organised by DMMU and International Organisation of Migration in Solwezi.
