Dear editor,
All patriotic Zambians should welcome the decision by government to ban the importation of goods which are locally available. This is long overdue. We need to protect our local industries.
The value of the dollar against our Kwacha is being increased partly by the abnormal demand for the United States currency.
Some Zambians are still living in the distant past by preferring imported goods to locally produced ones.
Gone are the days when people used to boast whenever they had an imported item. Now, Zambia has many companies and individuals who are able to make or produce high quality items.
For example, some of the imported edible oils are inferior to ours.
Importing goods which can be sourced locally means killing local jobs. Only ungrateful foreigners and unpatriotic Zambians can engage themselves in this disservice.
