IMF rallies for Zambia, developing countries

THE international community should help developing countries, including Zambia, with grants, concessional aid, debt relief and debt restructuring to help overcome coronavirus challenges, International Monetary Fund (IMF) research department, economic counsellor and director Gita Gopinath has said.
“The international community must act now to ensure the pandemic is beaten back everywhere. The divergence and prospects across and within countries should be reversed and we build forward to a future that is more prosperous, sustainable and inclusive,” Ms Gopinath said when she presented the world economic outlook report for 2021.
Ms Gopinath said developing countries have far less policy space and many have high debt that is set to rise during COVID-19.
