‘I’m not guilty of illegal stay’

A 59-YEAR-old British design engineer has pleaded not guilty in the Livingstone magistrate court to illegally remaining in Zambia after his work permit expired.
Before Livingstone Resident magistrate Chinkashi Chilingala was David Cyril Weatherail of Lusaka West farm, Lusaka.
Weatherail was charged with remaining in Zambia after the expiration of a permit.
It is alleged that between July 22 and August 25 this year in Livingstone, Weatherail being a British national of passport number 706495349, remained in Zambia on an expired temporary permit number W0268/08.
When the case came up for plea, Weatherail told the court that he had understood the charge and pleaded not guilty.
Weatherail has been remanded in custody and the case was adjourned to next month for trial.
