PRISCILLA MWILA, Lusaka
NEWLY-APPOINTED Patriotic Front (PF) Southern Province chairperson Lawrence Evans has commended President Lungu for entrusting him with the responsibility to lead the ruling party in the province.
Mr Evans said in an interview yesterday that the appointment comes with a lot of challenges and that he is equal to the task of growing the party in the region.
He said he is ready to work with any development-oriented opposition political party in the province in advancing PF’s pro-poor policies and programmes.
“I am grateful to the President for giving me this responsibility to lead the PF in Southern Province. Being a leader in an opposition stronghold comes with its own challenges but I am equal to the task and I will deliver,” he said.
Mr Evans said he will focus on mobilising the party through an aggressive recruitment drive and pledged to work with all party members.
He said the implementation of various development projects in various sectors of the country’s economy is a clear indication that President Lungu means well.
He said he will maintain an open-door policy to allow divergent views from all stakeholders on how best to handle the various challenges people in the province are facing.
“We are in the business of offering services to the people of Zambia and we will not leave anyone behind. If we open a hospital, it is not PF members that will utilise the services but every individual regardless of their party affiliation,” he said.
President Lungu recently made changes to the party’s central committee.
