PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has called for unity to make Zambia cholera-free.
The President said since cleanliness is not a political issue, Zambians, regardless of their affiliation, should strive to participate in national cleaning programmes because ‘cleanliness is next to godliness’.
Mr Lungu said this at Mathanda market in Zambia township during activities to commemorate the ‘Make Zambia Clean, Green and Healthy’ campaign, which is recognised on the last Saturday of every month.
“When the environment you are living in becomes contaminated and you fall ill, it will not choose that you belong to UPND, PF, UNIP, MMD and nabashala bonse [all other political parties], so I am praying that we will keep going on with this programme, especially now that the rains are coming.
“Cholera tenkama yabapo, cholera tebuloshi but cholera fiko, that’s all. [loosely translated as there is not secret or witchcraft regarding cholera, it is caused by dirt
