Letter to the Editor

I agree with Mr Kambilima on teacher registration fees

Dear editor,
THE letter by your regular writer Timothy Kambilima of Luanshya concerning the high teacher registration and certification fees was spot-on. At the moment, teachers are spending huge sums of money to move from primary certificate to primary diploma or from secondary diploma to degree level in line with government policy of phasing out certificates in the Ministry of Education in a bid to have only degree holders as secondary school teachers.
As the fees stand now, all secondary school teachers must pay K1,471.20, while primary school teachers will pay K1,270.20 as certification and registration fees. Like Mr Kambilima’s plea, I am also appealing to Republican President Edgar Lungu to see how the teachers can be helped by using powers vested in him as Head of State.
