HH, GBM fail to stop Lungu inauguration

THE inauguration of President-elect Edgar Lungu and Vice President-elect Inonge Wina will go ahead as planned on Tuesday after last night’s ruling in which the High Court dismissed with costs an application for interim reliefs by United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema and his running-mate Geoffrey Mwamba to stop the ceremony.
In this case, Mr Hichilema and Mr Mwamba wanted the court to grant them an interim injunction to restrain Chief Justice Irene Mambilima and Deputy Chief Justice Marvin Mwanamwambwa from swearing in Mr Lungu and Mrs Wina into office as President and Vice-President of Zambia.
When the matter came up for ruling, High Court judge Mwila Chitabo said the court has no jurisdiction to make such an order.READ MORE
