Health workers face theft charge

THREE Ministry of Health employees in Ndola on Wednesday pleaded not guilty before the Ndola Magistrate’s Court to stealing an assortment of medicines and equipment worth K47,820.30.

Before magistrate Obbister Musukwa was Keagan Simwala, 34, a pharmacy technologist, Francis Lubwika, 48, a pharmacy dispenser and Noble Bwalya, 40, an enrolled nurse, who are charged with four counts of theft by public servant.
The three are accused of stealing assorted medicines including 100 boxes of cannulas, 400 boxes artenatist injections, 10 boxes of syringes, 12 containers of penicillin V tablets, 10 boxes of surgical gloves, 10 bottles of quinine tablets, 12 containers of Panadol, 26 boxes of coartem and 17 bottles of quinine.
Magistrate Musukwa adjourned the matter to June 22 this year for commencement of trial and granted the three K7,000 bail each.
