Health insurance scheme coming

GOVERNMENT says it will soon implement a national social health insurance scheme aimed at providing healthcare services to citizens who cannot afford.
Deputy Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya said the provision of quality healthcare to people is one of the priorities of the Patriotic Front (PF) government.
“The PF Government is committed to ensuring that there is universal health coverage,” Dr Chilufya said.
He said in an interview yesterday that once in place, the national social health insurance scheme, will benefit the underprivileged.
Dr Chilufya said people will have access to healthcare even at times when they do not have money.
Dr Chilufya said the health insurance scheme will uplift the health status of most Zambians.
He said if implemented properly, such schemes can reduce the problems that people face when accessing healthcare.
Dr Chilufya said all sectors of the economy will improve when healthcare for the people is guaranteed.
He said the policy is still being developed and it will be submitted to Parliament for ratification once it is completed.
Dr Chilufya also said the national social health insurance scheme will enable people to have access to primary healthcare.
