Handballers exit Congo games

STEPHEN PHIRI, Brazzaville
ZAMBIA were yesterday eliminated from the All-Africa Games handball competition after going down to Ivory Coast.
The Zambian queens exit the tournament with two defeats following Thursday’s 51-10 bashing by Democratic Republic of Congo.
It was an improved performance by the Zambians but it was not enough to overcome the huge Ivorians at Concorde Sports Complex.
Ivory Coast were solid in defence and attack and led 21-4 at half-time.
Mariam Traore was on rampage scoring 11 goals, Nathalie Kregbo, Madelein Kouame, Awa Karamoko and Desiree Sigui netted five goals apiece while Koko Fofana scored four times.
Ire Coulibaly, Mayska Kouassi, Chantal Kregbo and Julie Toualy accounted for three goals apiece.
Ouattara Kouadio and Paula Gondo had a goal each.
Zambia’s Ruth Mbewe was a thorn in the flesh of the Ivorians hitting the net 10 times, Moria Kamfwa scoring three times while Jennipher Siamuleya netted twice.
