Hamalambo wins U-18 category

CHOOLWE Hamalambo on Saturday continued with his dominance in table tennis defeating Jeconiah Lambe to win the under- 18 National Junior championship at Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka on Saturday.
Hamalambo produced an outstanding performance thumping Lambe 11-6, 11-7, 11-9.
Nine days ago, Lambe eliminated Hamalambo in the semi-finals during the National Junior Table Championship at the same venue.
Charles Mutambo was crowned under- 14 boys’ king after beating Zaninge Kaira 11-14, 12-10, 11-7, 13-11 while the under-12 trophy went to Wisdom Nyirenda  who overcame Sydney Sakala 11-5, 13-11, 11, 6.
The under-8 champion is Chanda Muma who beat Sydney Sinkala 11- 7, 12- 2, 11-1.
In the under-18 girls category, Mubanga Kunda beat Latifa Nalavwe 8-11, 1-11, 11-9, 11-4, 11-1 to be crowned queen while the under- 10 girls’ championship was won by Monica Mutale who overcame Janet Mwelwa 11-9, 11-9, 11-7.
And Zambia Table Tennis Association patron Haroon Ghumra said 89 players took part in the tournament.
“As the future of any sport lies in the youths, the increase in the number of players no doubt augers well for the future of table tennis in Zambia,” Ghumra said.
