ZAMBIA’S finest fashion moguls and their models will finally get a shot at recognition with the launch of the first ever Grand Awards Zambia.
Grand Awards seek to celebrate, showcase, recognise and honour some of Zambia’s finest emerging and established talents in the fashion and modelling industry.
The prestigious award ceremony has been scheduled for November 2 at the Government Complex in Lusaka.
The event, which will be held annually, targets models, fashion designers, photographers, fashion events managers, agencies and not forgetting the ones that make it happen behind the scenes like make-up artists, fashion stylists, bloggers, sponsors and retailers.
Chali Laswel, the event’s public relations manager, told the Weekend Mail that it is an event that will be ranked alongside major award ceremonies in Zambia because it has selected total number of 42 nominees from across the different categories.
He said the main categories include Model of The Year, Designer of The Year, Best Fashion Photographer, Best Model Manager, Most Fashionable Celebrity, Best Supporting Company, Best Make-up Artist, Most Promising New Designer, Event of The Year, Most Promising New Model, and Most Fashionable Celebrity.
The nominees for the Model of the Year are Louisa Changangu, Miss Africa 2017, Isabel Chikoti, Miss Universe 2017, Cecilia Kongwa, Face of Atlas Mara, and Brandina Lubuli, Miss Globe International.
In the Best Fashion photographer category there is Fortress Media, Davies Tony of Tony Media, Kabelenga Phiri of Kwitu Group and Chellah Tukuta of Chella Photography.
Model Manager Category has Sphiwe Benasho of Pink Diamond, Naomi Banda of Unathi Events and model Agency, Alice Musukwa of New Look Model Management and Lindiwe Kasonde of Belleza Talent Agency.
Best Fashion Celebrity has the likes of El Mukuka, Tivo, Cleo Ice Queen and Kuni.
Most Promising New Model has Emmanual Kasonde, Salifyanji Namonje, Pitita Jimmy and Rose Kilambe.
Best Designer has Chiza of Esnoko, Chisomo Lombe of Chizo Designers, Kapasa Musonda of Mangishi Doll and Debbie Chu.
Best Supporting Company category has Interfashional, Power FM, Prolyfe Photography and H.K Productions.
Best Make-up Artist has Vee Chanda, Abigail Chansa, Sarah Mwenya and Zyonyt.
Most Promising New Designer has Byenda Nkwanda of Golden Traib, Cecilia Njovu of Ulo Designs, Mwewa Chanda of Sititch by Safo and Alexa of Lexi Designs.
Event of the year category has Miss Universe Zambia, Lusaka July, Miss Zambia and Zambia Fashion Week.
Chali shared that the Zambian fashion industry has proved to be one of the fastest growing industries in the country.
He added that they is rampant increase in the number fashion designers, retailers, models, agencies and fashion photographers emerging in the industry over the past few years.
“The Zambian fashion industry has come to be more competitive and appreciated by the local people, it’s even gaining recognition in the diaspora,” Chali said.
He explained that in order to inspire creativity, innovation and motivation among the stakeholders in the industry, a first ever recognition award ceremony had to be formulated, hence the birth of the Grand Awards.
It is in this direction that Grand Awards would like to foster development in Zambian fashion industry supplementing on Government’s efforts to promote tourism by taking creative, ethnic and authentic fashion ideas within the country and outside boarders.
