Grade 12 exam cheats nabbed

POLICE in Solwezi have arrested four people for various examination related offences during the ongoing General Certificate of Education

examinations.
North-Western Province commissioner of police Auxensio Daka said the suspects were arrested on Wednesday between 08:30 hours and 16:50 hours.
The suspects are Andrew Mayonde, 24, and Patricia Mbela, 22, both of Zambia Township, Abraham Masukwa, 22, of Kyawama compound, and Caphas Kambiya, 19, of Solwezi Technical Secondary School compound.
“Four people have been arrested for unlawful possession of examination materials contrary to section 19 (1) of the Examination Council of Zambia Act Cap 137,” he said.
Mr Daka said Henry Mulongo of house number 19907 Libala South in Lusaka, a senior examinations officer at ECZ, reported to police that Mayonde was found in possession of mathematics paper one answers while sitting for the same examination at Solwezi Secondary School.
“Another case was reported by Edith Talimi of Matero North in Lusaka, an assistant examinations officer based at ECZ, that Masukwa was found with mathematics paper one answers on his cell phone at Solwezi Day Secondary School,” he said.
Mr Daka said the third case was reported by Wallen Chembe, a teacher at Solwezi Skills, after he found Mbela in possession of answers for mathematics paper one.
“The fourth suspect, Kambiya, was arrested for unauthorised possession of examination paper or information where the accused was impersonating and signed in as Bosco Sibulimba. The offence falls under section 19 (2) of the ECZ Act Cap 137,” he said.
Mr Daka said police have opened dockets in all the four cases and the suspects are currently in police custody.
