Government to soon award contract for more power supply

GOVERNMENT will soon award a contract for an additional 750 megawatts of power generation.
Special assistant to the President for press and public relations Amos Chanda said in an interview at State House yesterday that all well-meaning Zambians should be happy that President Lungu has directed that the contract be awarded.
The 750 megawatts is almost equal to what the country is producing now.
“The President has just been in office for seven months and people should appreciate that he wants to ensure that everything is working perfectly well.
“900 megawatts from the renewable energy is also coming under the instruction of the President and I want to assure the people of Zambia that the President is governing this country in line with the campaign promises,” he said.
Mr Chanda also said that Zesco management must apologise to President Lungu if the power utility was responsible for load-shedding Heroes National Stadium while the head of State was in attendance during an international friendly soccer match between Zambia and Gabon which ended in a 1-1 draw.
He said that Zesco management must explain if the power utility was responsible for the power outage at the stadium during the game.
