Government rejects shoddy health posts

GOVERNMENT has directed a contractor engaged to build 10 health posts in Gwembe district to rebuild the structures because they are poorly done.
Deputy Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya also instructed that the contractor should not be paid because of shoddy work at the three sites.
“The sub-structures of the three health posts have been completed. However, the quality is poor. Government is not going to pay for the shoddy works,” Dr Chilufya said.
Speaking when he toured the projects here on Wednesday, Dr Chilufya said the contractor and the sub- contractor have been communicated to so that they can work on the health posts to correct the flaws.
He, however, assured Gwembe residents that the contractors working on the health posts will complete their work as scheduled.
Dr Chilufya also said Government’s programme of ensuring that there is consistent power supply to all hospitals and health centre has continued.
He said Government has been supplying generators to health facilities throughout the country.
And Dr Chilufya said the opening of Gwembe Hospital will be done soon because works are almost complete.
“Phase one of the construction of the hospital has been completed and we are just waiting for equipment. Phase two of the construction of the hospital which will cost about US$25 million will soon commence,” he said.
