BANKS need to create an affordable and tailored financial products to boost investment in production and extension services in the aquaculture sector, the Policy Monitoring and Research Centre (PMRC) says.
Currently, the fisheries sub-sector produces about 100,000 tonnes of fish annually, although it has the potential to harvest 150,000 tonnes.
PMRC executive director Bernadette Deka said despite Zambia being the sixth largest producer of fish in Africa, the sub-sector’s potential still remains underexploited due to some challenges.
Ms Deka said improved extension services are critical in fostering capacity building for small-scale farmers in the production and management of their ponds, dams and cages.http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
