MOVEMENTS of goods and services can sometimes be a sign of positive economic growth.Lately, Zambia has seen massive importation of various capital equipment to be used by mining contractors who are well supported by financial lending institutions.
What I don’t seem to know, rather having come across, is our country’s balance of payment or balance of international payment statement to see how we are faring in terms of trade with the outside world.
Otherwise, without such information, I would conclude that there is a trade deficit because as a country we are borrowing a lot.
We need to manage our finite resources on the Copperbelt very well in order to get full benefits of our God-given resources.
One such way is to explore the mineral resources value addition.
