Give State chance, says UPND official

OPPOSITION United Party for National Development (UPND) on the Copperbelt says Zambians should not panic over the fuel hike in the country.
UPND Copperbelt Province information and publicity secretary Kennedy Kalunga said yesterday that although the fuel hike could have negative effects on the economy, Government should be given some time to fix the problem.
“We understand that the price of fuel has come down on the international market, but Zambians should not panic,” Mr Kalunga said.
He said the UPND will always continue giving positive criticism to make the country move forward.
He said Government should not be entirely blamed over the fuel hike which he said was not the creation of the PF government but external forces.
Meanwhile, Mr Kalunga has appealed to UPND cadres on the Copperbelt to accept the appointment of PF Kasama Central member of Parliament Geoffrey Mwamba as vice-president for administration.
“I appeal to UPND members on the Copperbelt Province to accept the appointment of Mr Mwamba as vice-president for administration of UPND. He still remains PF member of Parliament for Kasama, we need to work together with him,” he said.
Mr Mwamba has reportedly been rejected by some UPND members.
On Friday, he was involved in a fracas at Parliament, where he verbally abused Mfuwe and Chilubi MPs Mwiimba Malama and Obious Chisala, saying they come from small tribes which the Bembas would obliterate politically.
