GBV cases worry YWCA

THE Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) on the Copperbelt has recorded 755 cases of gender-based violence (GBV) from

January to date.
Copperbelt YWCA regional coordinator Sharon Chisanga said in an interview yesterday that the number of GBV cases being recorded in the province is worrying especially that some of them lead to death.
Ms Chisanga said cases such as spouse abuse often leave children suffering, particularly if one of the parents is incarcerated or murdered.
“We are worried about the high cases of GBV we are recording as a province. Some of these cases are fatal. There are incidents where a wife or a husband is murdered and the children are left alone to suffer,” she said.
Ms Chisanga has urged couples to dialogue whenever they are aggrieved rather than resorting to violence.
