Fuel attendant arrested over diesel theft

BUTTYSON KANDIMBA, Solwezi
POLICE in Solwezi have arrested a fuel attendant at Kalumbila Trident mine for alleged theft by servant involving 5,460 litres of diesel worth K54,600.
North-Western Province commissioner of police Eugene Sibote said yesterday that the incident happened on Monday night.
Mr Sibote identified the suspect as Happy Chibukulu, 20, of house No. 3, Kalumbila township housing complex.
He also said police have impounded a Hino truck, registration number ALL 816, carrying diesel in Solwezi.
The truck was being driven by Simon Chinyama, 32, of Wisdom township in Solwezi.
“We received information from members of the public that there was a truck from Kalumbila that was carrying suspected stolen fuel and our officers were dispatched to the area and managed to impound the truck,” Mr Sibote said.
He said police interrogated Chinyama who revealed that he had three accomplices, among them Chibukulu, who is a fuel attendant at Kalumbila mine.
Mr Sibote also said Kakoma Mujimba and another suspect, only identified as Douglas, both of Kananga in Meheba are on the run.
He said police have detained Chibukulu and Chinyama and the two will appear in court soon
Meanwhile, police in Solwezi have arrested a 32-year-old businessman of Kyawama township for allegedly issuing fake drivers’ licences to taxi drivers.
Mr Sibote identified the suspect as Royd Shantobo.
Police have recovered a desktop computer, scanner and a laminating machine, which Shantobo was allegedly using to produce fake drivers’ licences.
