FRA kicks off 2014/15 crop marketing preps

THE Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has started preparations for the 2014/15 crop marketing season in Sesheke with 29 field staff already deployed to the district for the exercise.
The agency is also putting in place other logistical arrangements for the exercise at the satellite depot.
According to the Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) Friday brief on Monday, initially, 18 satellite depots were planned to be opened but the lobbying done by the district farmers’ association in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock convinced FRA to increase the number by 11.
However, the district commissioner’s office has assured the people of Sesheke that relief food will soon be given to people who are severely hit with hunger.
Meanwhile, preparations for the Southern Province Agriculture and Tourism Show have reached an advanced stage.
The show, which will run from July16 to 19, 2015, in Livingstone, is expected to attract a lot of exhibitors, both from the agricultural and tourism sectors.
A check by ZNFU at the show grounds found that most of the exhibitors have already started putting up structures as the show draws closer.
At this year’s provincial show, ZNFU and National Savings and Credit Bank will be handing over equipment to farmer beneficiaries under the Bunjimi Asset+ loan facility.
Some of the assets to be handed over will include two tractors, one oil mill, one generator set, and some irrigation equipment.
