FRA extends buying time

LUCY LUMBE, Livingstone
THE Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has extended the maize marketing season to enable more farmers to sell their maize to the agency to safeguard the country’s food security.
FRA board chairperson Joe Simachela urged farmers countrywide who still have maize to take their grain to the nearest FRA depots.
He said the country is food-secure despite the agency only managing to buy 172,000 metric tonnes against the 500,000 target.
Mr Simachela said this during a fact-finding mission by the FRA and the Millers Association of Zambia (MAZ) here recently.
