FRA buys 26,000 bags of maize in Kabompo

THE Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has bought 26,000 50 kilogramme bags of white maize from small-scale farmers in Kabompo district in North-Western Province worth K1,560,000.

Kabompo district agriculture coordinator Peter Chibizwa said in an interview from Kabompo that the figure is out of a targeted 300,000 50 kilogramme bags expected to be bought from farmers during the 2017 crop marketing season.
Mr Chibizwa said the pace at which farmers are delivering maize to FRA depots is not impressive as most of them are still holding on to their grain as a result of the K60 price at which the agency is buying the commodity.
