‘Forbidden’ cow lands man in jail

CHALI MULENGA, Livingstone
A MGISTRATES court in Livingstone has sentenced a man to five years imprisonment with hard labour for receiving a stolen cow from a neighbouring country.
On Wednesday the court found Raymond Musiwa, 31, of Kazungula guilty of being in possession of a stolen animal.
Particulars of the offence were that on October, 22 last year, Musiwa received a cow, which was stolen from Namibia by unknown people.
Chief resident magistrate Willie Sinyangwe said the offence was a serious one and that Musiwa deserved to be punished.
Mr Sinyangwe said he had heard the evidence from the prosecution and had no doubt in his mind that it had proved its case against Musiwa.
He said his court would give the convict a custodial sentence.
“I hereby sentence you to five years imprisonment with hard labour, you are also reminded of your rights to appeal to the high court if you are not satisfied with both conviction and sentence within fourteen days,” he said.
