Football association should nip hooliganism in the bud

Dear editor,
WHAT transpired at Godfrey Chitalu Stadium in Kabwe between Kabwe Warriors Football Club and Nkana Football Club supporters is sad.On Sunday, Warriors soccer fans badly injured two Nkana supporters with beer bottles during the FAZ/ MTN match between the two teams as police officers helplessly watched the former taking the law into their hands.
Both teams are well known for acts of hooliganism. The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) should act swiftly to nip hooliganism in the bud.
Having passionate soccer fans and having a huge supporters base is each and every club’s wish.
Having a huge following in most cases is what influences the chances for winning matches.
Recently, it was Nkana fans who stoned a bus for Buildcon Football Club supporters at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe.
Surprisingly, most of these big clubs have fan clubs that look into the affairs and conduct of their fans.
But from the look of things, one may be tempted to think that it is the fan clubs which incite violence.
Why do they fail to discipline their members?
Everyone feels the pain of losing, drawing or watching their opponents’ goalkeeper playing delaying tactics when your team is really in need of something to hope for. But that’s football.
